OA Supporter Membership
Some institutions may not wish to sign up to a book package, or may not be able to. However they might still want to support, and help to fund, the frontlist of open access monographs that Basler Afrika Bibliographien publishes. For these institutions we have created an ‘OA Supporter Membership’.

You can sign up to an OA Supporter Membership 'package’ for three years - this will help to fund new, frontlist OA monographs but you will not receive access to any backlist packages of book titles. It is simple and quick to join: just fill in the sign up form with the appropriate details and we’ll do the rest. Alternatively, if you are in the UK you can go via the Jisc Licence Manager, and if you are elsewhere in the world you can go via Lyrasis' product pages or email them on membersupport@lyrasis.org. It's the same price whichever way you sign up. No further action is required from you once we have processed the payment. The fees are the same as for our book packages.
The OA Supporter Membership is the equivalent of one standard backlist package. You can also sign up to a Double OA Supporter Package (equivalent to two single packages combined) or a Triple OA Supporter Package (equivalent to three single packages combined) if you wish to make your investment go further. Just send an email from the Contact page and we'll give you a price quote for that.

Table of fees
Library and institutional members are tiered. Banding for US Institutions is tiered based on the Basic Classification from Carnegie Classification. In Canada we use the CRKN banding system and in the UK bandings are based on Jisc classifications. Based on this, our annual membership fees are:

Membership is for a minimum of three years. The slight rise in membership fees for 2027-2028 reflects rising inflation rates alongside rising production costs for publishers globally. The renewed fees allow BAB to continue to use membership revenue solely to produce new OA monographs, moving towards an affordable, sustainable model for the future of academic publishing. And while the rises are around 5%, in real terms they are no more than a rise of around €40 to €120 a year.

You can also prepay your entire 3-year subscription up-front. The one-off payment option benefits from a fixed annual price with no price increase during the 3-year term.
